Camp Mattatuck in conjunction with Regional School District 15, Naugatuck Public Schools and other local districts presents STEM Day Camp! STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. This program aims to give Campers going into grade 3rd - 8th grade, an opportunity to branch out into different aspects of the STEM program. Each camp day will run from 9:30am - 4:00pm with bus pick up and drop off at 9:00 and 4:15. The program will feature an array of hands-on STEM related experiments and exploration daily all while campers will participate in the full day camp experience. Campers will have the opportunity to have a water activity in the pond daily along with hiking, rock wall bouldering, archery, robotics and remote control vehicles. This program aims to keep the participants learning and engaged in a fun outdoor learning environment. The camp will run for two weeks July 7 - July 18th. Depending on the town’s enrollment, there will be bus transportation from the local High Schools. Each participant will need a completed Physical Form with a provider’s stamp/signature, so please plan accordingly. The form is linked directly below the registration.​

STEM DAY CAMP Typical Day

The day starts with Check-in before boarding the bus at Pomperaug High School at 9:00. The campers will be brought directly to their homebase, Leever Lodge,  221 Mount Tobe Road Plymouth, at Camp Mattatuck. They will have center activities to participate in before introductions of the STEM staff and review the daily schedule. We will have opportunities to take part in fun camper centered science activities. Camp activities and lunch will await us next. Camp activities would include visits to Wheels to ride bikes and work remote control cars, STEM to work with rockets or robotics and engineering activities, All Adventure to climb a rock wall or take part in cooperative games, Scout Craft to learn about building fires, Nature to go on hikes, play games or fish in the lake, Craft Space to design, create and construct with an array of art mediums, Shooting Sports to take part in archery, and we will have daily water activities at Waterfront. The day will wrap up back a Leever for our final group and independent activities. Students will board the bus and return back to Pomperaug High School around 4:15.

In order to have admittance to the camp property a Doctor signed camp medical form must be completed and provided to staff prior to boarding the bus or checking into camp. Items to bring to STEM Day Camp:
It is recommended that Day Campers pack a smaller day pack, something they can carry water/ water bottle, snacks and a towel from program area to program area. 
  • Dress for the weather and environment- Shorts, Sneakers, Baseball Hat, Sweatshirt, Socks and a Raincoat or light jacket if needed, we will get wet and dirty
  • Either wear a bathing suit or bring the bathing suit, towel and an extra set of clothing (we will have water opportunities everyday) 
  • Students will be taking a swim test on day one. This involved swimming 4 laps- 3 of which can be any stroke as long as you do not stop and touch the ground and the last stroke is the elementary backstroke. Please review or prepare for this as you see fit.
  • Camp will provide snacks and lunch- so plan accordingly to your child’s dietary needs
  • Camp communication- you may call Camp Mattatuck Main Office at (860) 283-9577 & (860) 283-4876 to communicate absences or emergency pick up needs 
  • Any medications that will be accompanying the camper, can be sent with the medical forms on day 1 of camp
  • Sneakers or Close Toe Shoes are encouraged. NO sandals, Crocs or bare feet are allowed at STEM Day Camp. 
  • Sunscreen and bug lotion. These should be applied before camp and brought to reapply during the day. Please, no aerosol cans are permitted at camp.
  • Trading Post. There is the opportunity to visit the Base Camp Trading Post. You may send money for the purchase of beverages, iced treats, trinkets and sweets. $5.00 would be appropriate for a snack, iced treats or drinks.
  • If you have a fishing enthusiast you may send a fishing pole and supplies in with the camper. We can store the fishing pole at Camp until the camper wants to bring it back home.
