Scoutcraft

Located near most of the campsites, the Camp Mattatuck Scoutcraft department is full of tons of things to do. Monday through Thursday morning, the staff puts together troop activities that range from proper flag etiquette to how to make a matchless fire. Fridays at Scoutcraft are especially fun for Scoutmasters because it features the Cast Iron Chef competition. Modeled after the popular show “Iron Chef,” participants are given specific ingredients, asked to create an interesting dish, and then judged according to taste, use of ingredients, and presentation. Every afternoon at Scoutcraft there’s always a variety of merit badges being taught that could be anything from orienteering to wilderness survival. A full list of offered merit badges can be found in the 2007 Summer Program Guide. Additionally, Scoutcraft offers popular programs such as troop pioneering projects. This is when the Scoutcraft staff will go to a troop campsite and builds a pioneering project with the scouts; it is a huge hit with the campers. Scoutcraft is always full of fun things to do for all age groups and remains one of the most frequently visited departments in camp.
