Project C.O.P.E.

Project COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) is an exciting outdoor activity that attracts older boys to Scouting. It is designed to meet the needs of today's scouts who are seeking greater challenges to their physical and mental abilities. Project COPE is based around seven goals that form the backbone of the program. They are: Teamwork, Planning, Leadership, Communication, Trust, Self-Esteem, Decision Making and Problem Solving. This is a weeklong program for Scouts 14 years of age and older and can be done for multiple years.

The Project COPE program consists of three types of activities:

The program is open to all scouts 14 and older who have gained their Scoutmaster’s permission to be part of the experience. Interested scouts should give their registration form to the Project COPE staff on Sunday night during the merit badge signup. The program runs 9-12 AM Monday-Friday with the possibility of a separate afternoon program running from 1-4 PM if the number of interested scouts warrants it. This means that if scouts are interested in the afternoon session they should not expect to take merit badges. Conversely, this is an awesome opportunity for scouts who have completed their days of taking merit badges, and need a reason to come to camp, or a good reason to get out of the house.

Additionally, the Project COPE staff teach Climbing and Personal Fitness Merit Badges Monday – Friday afternoon as well as host open climbing at our climbing tower in afternoon and evening.

A Project COPE course provides an opportunity for each participant to learn valuable teamwork skills as well as individual success. The activities are not designed to be competitive or to be a race against time. Other important objectives include building confidence, developing leadership skills, and attaining a sense of common cooperation among team members.

Interested? Questions can be answered at the Tuesday night program-planning meeting. Sign up happens during normal merit badge sign up time on Sunday evening. As always, please don’t hesitate to call the camp office with any questions or concerns you may have.
