Archery
Located a few minutes from our rifle range is our archery department, at "cc" on the map. On the range, scouts and adults have an opportunity to work on their marksmanship. Under no circumstances is anyone allowed to bring bows or arrows into camp. In addition, the range boasts several activities that put those skills to the test. There is an extensive and challenging field course where archers shoot at 3D targets and a moving target event where timing and aim play equal parts. One of the most popular activities is the water dunk, where two shoots aim at a distant target with the hopes of triggering the bucket of water over the other person's head.
On Sunday evening, all troops will go through archery orientation in our amphitheater. Our shooting sports staff will provide the safety rules for the range and provide some background as to the commands followed while on the range.
Mornings during the week troops are invited to go on troop shoots and on Friday we offer the Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) program. At JOAD, members of Archery Merit Badge as well as other advanced archers come down for the morning, are 25 shots, and try to get as high a score as possible. Every afternoon at the Archery Range we offer Archery Merit Badge, followed by open shoot on the range.
