May 13, 2020 Dear Scouting Family, We are deeply saddened to have announced that we will not be opening for the 2020 season at our wonderful camps. The health and safety of our Scouts, Scouters, and staff is our utmost concern. We will continue to monitor the situation and once we feel that an in-person program can be delivered safely at any point this summer, we will re-evaluate and announce what will be available. We strongly recommend that units do not plan overnight camping trips on their own. This type of activity will be non-sanctioned. With regards to new programming, our camp staff have been developing multiple programs which include a robust online “at home” camp and a full Fall weekend lineup at each camp property. This summer we are excited to announce and welcome CAMP KINDA-LIKE-A to our camp family. In the coming days and weeks you will see more information released on CAMP KINDA-LIKE-A; please stay tuned. This Fall each camp has developed unique programs to fit the needs of individuals, troops, packs, and families. More information will be distributed in early summer. As for summer 2020 payments, we will have several options available to choose (you can choose one or a combination of the options): 1. we can provide a refund as soon as possible; 2. we can roll your payment into one of the upcoming camp programs (Camp Kinda-Like-A or camp Fall programs); 3. We can roll your 2020 payment into 2021 for a site reservation; or 4. you can donate a portion of your fee to help the CT Rivers Council continue its mission. For refunds or roll overs contact Michele Soboslai at email@example.com. We are excited and hope these new opportunities help fill a need. While we know these new programs in no way replace a summer camp experience, we are excited to be able to offer alternatives to make the best of the situation. In true Scouting Spirit, we will provide what is needed until we can meet again by the camp fire. Thank you for your understanding and Scout On!
Fall Camping Experience The Camp Mattatuck fall Camping Experience is designed to emulate all things we love about camp! The program will run for three sessions. Each session will run for six days, from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon and span over two separate weekends. The program will feature morning group activities such as: shooting, swimming/boating, dutch oven cooking etc. and Merit Badges in the afternoon. There will be a handful of Merit Badges added to this Fall Experience that are not offered over the regular summer season. This experience can be done as a Scouting Unit or as a provisional. Scouts who sign up for this program as provisionals will be assigned into a group that they will spend the week with and travel with for the morning group programs. The Fall Experence will also include Cub Scout Day and Resident Camp options. This program aims to keep the Scouting Spirit alive in all of us.
Winter Resident Camp Held between Christmas and New Year's Day 2020. Winter Camp is a unique experience where a Scout can earn merit badges and participate in activities that are not obtainable at a summer camp along with learning more about the Outdoors. The weather, activities, training, and overall camp atmosphere are vastly unique to any other Scout programs. This is not a Klondike, it is advancement and skills-based program that is fun.
